The Tullymore Golf Club
The Tullymore Golf Club is located in Stanwood, MI, and is ranked in the top 15 for public golf courses in America, according to Golf Digest. Tullymore offers the golfer unique golf and resort experience, and that is conveyed in the design finishes chosen by the Owners and the Design Team. Over the past two years, the ownership of Tullymore has put a tremendous amount of effort and capital into updating the existing golf course and surrounding areas. One of the major projects was to redesign the front entrance to the golf course, and add a brand new, state of the art, clubhouse and banquet facility.
In 2007, the ownership contracted Nobel Concrete to pour and imprint the main entrance to the golf course, which was approximately 10,000 square feet. One of our biggest challenges with the project was to complete it within a very small timeline. The road was the only public access to the golf course, and the ownership was insistent the road stay open. After much discussion with the owners, they agreed to give us full access to the entrance, if we could be finished within a week.
Working with a design team, the owners chose Medium Ashlar Slate by Bomanite as a stamp pattern, coal light by Prism was used for the integral color along with French Gray color hardener by Bomanite, and Sunset Gray By Bomanite was used as the powdered release. In addition, the design team specified 5% to10% of the slate tile was to be stained with Seal Brown and Auburn acid stain. Knowing the time limitations, we started placing the concrete at 3:00 am on a cool early May morning. We were done placing and imprinting the entire 200 yard section by 1:00 pm that day. Early the next day, we washed off the powdered release, and followed it with the stain application. The third day we again washed the surface, and applied two coats of a solvent based acrylic cure and seal, and turned the project back over to the owners.
Due to the success of the imprinted entrance way, the owners contracted us to stamp walks, patios, intersections and additional roadways. The patio and restaurant seating area around the clubhouse was another large section of the project. We used Slate pattern by Bomanite, with Wheat Light by Prism for the integral color, Desert Tan color hardener and French Gray by Bomanite for the release; this was also sealed with a solvent based acrylic cure and seal. All together, this project consisted of over 50,000 square feet of imprinted concrete with the majority of it being completed in 2008.
